Youth Progress is seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and responsible Life Skills Trainer (LST) to join our team. The person in this position will supervise clients in a residential treatment setting and help youth learn to live independently. Since LSTs interact with clients more than most staff, they serve as the first line of support for youth in our programs.

Job Responsibilities:

Direct services & Client support:

  • Safety - Ensure the safety of clients by proving consistent and active supervision.
  • Skill development - Model and support client development of social and emotional skills. Teach and practice independent living skills like cooking, laundry, and financial literacy.
  • De-escalation - Help youth control their emotions in the event of client escalation.
  • Medication - Dispense medication when necessary.

Documentation and Facility Readiness:

  • Communication - Invest in clients' ongoing success by documenting and communicating client needs and behaviors.
  • Safety- Perform limited maintenance tasks to ensure the ongoing health and safety of the residence.

About Us:

What we do:

Youth Progress provides safe and stable homes to youth in the Juvenile Justice and Foster Care systems. We are trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and provide individualized and comprehensive supports to youth in our programs. We are dedicated to helping youth become productive members of the community.

We Believe:

  • We believe that youth in the juvenile justice and foster care systems are leaders, scholars, artists, athletes and entrepreneurs; we recognize this and create opportunities to build upon these talents
  • We believe in the power of relationships, and work tirelessly to earn the trust and respect of youth in our programs
  • We believe in the innate beauty of all youth and the importance of treating all youth with unconditional positive regard
  • We believe in creating a positive, caring environment that helps inspire change in the hearts and minds of youth
  • We believe in the importance of expressing gratitude and in celebrating successes together
  • We believe that the experiences of staff and youth are inextricably linked, and that we are on a transformational journey together

Position & Environment Details:

  • Full Time: Yes
  • On-call: No
  • Hours: varied hours
  • Days: Sat-Wed
  • Co-workers: LSTs work with a shift partner, and are a part of a larger team of LSTs, case managers, and program managers. As an agency, we're creative, open-minded, and bustling. We're often busy, but never too busy to help brainstorm a complicated problem or share a word of support.
  • Day to day: For our LSTs, everyday is a little bit different. Some days you may take a client to the doctor, shoot hoops at the park, or help youth pick out groceries. Since we work with youth who come from challenging backgrounds, success in this field requires patience, dedication, and an appreciation of small, incremental successes. If you are passionate about improving the lives of vulnerable youth, and you like having full & varied days, this position could be a great fit.

Applicant Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in social sciences or commensurate experience
  • Ability to pass a DHS background check and driving history check
  • Valid OR or WA driver's license
