Youth Progress is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and trauma-informed Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) to join our team. The YES is responsible for creating a community within their homeroom, providing consistency, and maintaining safety. This position requires a level-headed and reliable person. The YES positions are a part of our Visions Day Treatment Program. This position will report into the Visions Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:

Milieu Management:

  • Client Support: Provide individual guidance for clients in the milieu, in conjunction with the homeroom Case Manager throughout their day. YES's will create and maintain a culture of community and belonging with all youth at Youth Progress, as well as those within the homeroom.
  • Communication: Enhance communication within and between homerooms and with our Learning Center by creating routines and procedures to help each client succeed.
  • Consistency:  Keep clients safe and help them progress toward their treatment goals
  • Role Modeling: Be a cultural leader by maintaining a calm, positive, and professional presence. Role-model problem-solving and conflict resolution throughout your work.

Relational Engagement:

  • Relationship Building: Create strong and trusting relationships with youth. Capitalize on scheduled and unscheduled time with youth to build rapport and a professional helping relationship.
  • Calming Presence: Ensure client safety and stability by modeling calm and consistency communication in times of crisis and when managing high intensity situations.
  • Client Growth: Collaborate with youth to help ensure they are creating and following individualized and developmentally appropriate plans and goals
  • Client empowerment: Empower and support youth in decision making, collaborative problem solving, and positive reinforcements.
  • Group Facilitation: Facilitate groups in one or more of the following areas: Sports/Rec, Creative Arts, Health/Wellness

Documentation and Tracking:

  • Logging: Complete daily logs for each client in their homeroom, for a weekly minimum of 12 hours. Will lead check in and/or check out group with all homeroom clients daily.
  • Documentation:Invest in clients' ongoing success by documenting client needs and behaviors and associated support plans. Help ensure that our documentation is on time and meets state requirements.

About Us: Youth Progress is a nonprofit organization that ensures youth in the Juvenile Justice and Foster care systems have a safe and stable place to live. We are a trauma-informed organization providing individualized and comprehensive services. Youth in our programs are provided the supports and resources necessary to make progress towards adulthood.

Position & Environment Details:

  • Full Time: Yes
  • On-call: Yes
  • Hours: Typically 8:30-5:00 or 7:30-4:00 M-F
  • Co-workers: The Youth Engagement Specialists will work closely with the case manager, and life skills coaches. As an agency, we're creative, open-minded, and bustling. We're often busy, but never too busy to help brainstorm a complicated problem or share a word of support.
  • Day to day: For our Youth Engagement Specialists no two days are exactly alike. However, on any given day, you will likely spend a lot of time with youth, in the home rooms in various activities and groups. If you are someone who enjoys lively days, has a knack for anticipating the unexpected, has a strong ability to engage youth, and faces each new day with poise, this position could be a great fit.

Applicant Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, or social sciences
  • 2 years prior experience in direct services working with youth  
  • Current driver's license

Preferred:

  • Master's level preferred
  • Experience facilitating groups
  • Experience providing Trauma-Informed Services
  • Experience with Collaborative Problem Solving and/or Restorative Justice
  • Experience providing culturally responsive services and/or relational engagement with youth.
